Rates Relief and Grant Funding

Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Sector - 2020/21

For businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector no business rates will be payable for 2020/21.

There is no application required and the discount will apply automatically.

Your local council may have to reissue your bill, but will do this as soon as possible.

Grant Schemes

There are two grant schemes available for organisations who occupy properties that are liable for business rates. We understand that even where those organisations are not normally responsible for the payment of their rates bill (ie the landlord pays on their behalf), may still be eligible for the grant. We recommend contacting your landlord to obtain a copy of your most recent rates bill as it will contain key information required to make an application for the grant.

Small Business Grant Scheme

The government are providing a £10,000 grant to support small businesses in England that operate from a property and benefit from small business rate relief, rural rate relief, or tapered relief.

Business interruption grant

Cash grants of up to £25,000 will be made to businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector who operate from premises with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000.

How to claim

The grants are available per property so businesses occupying multiple properties may be eligible for more than one grant. Each grant must be applied for separately. The relevant local authority for the business premises should have contacted you already but details of the application for certain local authorities can be found as follows:-
