In conversation with Linda Brinkley

Highly experienced, Linda joined the Abingdon team in 2006 as the office’s Senior Manager. Within her role Linda covers all work of general practice, including personal and corporate tax, audit, and payroll, but she most enjoys accounting work including statutory and management accounts. Always available to help with any queries, Linda was an invaluable asset to her clients throughout the pandemic, working to advise them on the financial help options available to them and making furlough grant claims. When not working Linda can be found in the garden, keeping fit, or spending time with her granddaughters.

What do you enjoy most about working for Wenn Townsend?
That is easy to answer – variety! One minute I could be helping someone with their VAT return and the next minute calculating the present value of a client’s interest rate swaps. There is never a dull moment.

What do you think sets Wenn Townsend apart from our competition?
From Trainees through to Partners we are quite hands-on. We really care about our clients. We build relationships that stand the test of time and changing circumstances.

What does a typical day in the office look like for you?
I like to start with a good strong cup of coffee and a scan through the emails and post, followed by a look at my ‘to do list’ (invaluable when you get past a certain age!). I then write myself a program of what I hope to achieve today and get busy. I might be involved with preparing or reviewing some accounts, completing a tax return, or researching the answer to a query. Every day is the same but different!

You’ve worked as an accountant for over 44 years, what would you say has been your career highlight so far?
I would be hard pressed to single out one thing. Generally, though, helping clients to find solutions to problems is very satisfying.
I could also be a bit flippant and say, the day the women in the office (not this one!) were allowed to wear trousers to work! That was quite some time ago I hasten to add.

We’re currently in our busiest period of the year. What can our clients do to ensure they meet all the required filing deadlines coming up?
Clients should make sure that their records are up to date and readily available for us to work with.  Don’t wait to be chased and answer any queries as soon as possible.
